ACTUAL SIZE

For artists

The empty walls in Actual Size are being held for living artists. You would list your own paintings, prints, textiles or sculpture at the size you made them. One living artist’s room is open, hung from the artist’s own record.

Why the size

An online thumbnail gives a buyer little sense of a painting’s physical size. Here, they would see your work beside a 1.70 metre human silhouette. They could compare it with 5 centuries of art at the same scale. They would know how big the work arriving at their door would be.

Whose measurement

You would measure your own work, and the gallery would use the dimensions you supply. Historic works use the holding museum’s recorded measurement or a value from Wikidata. Each label says which source supplied the size. A work without a published size hangs at a declared display size, and its label says so.

Every gallery work names its size source. A museum’s recorded size reads Measured by the museum, a Wikidata size Recorded on Wikidata, and an artist’s published size Measured or provided by the artist. Works without a published size say they hang at a display size.

On chain

Minting would register your work on a blockchain, a shared online record, using code called a contract. A platform owns its own contract; here, you would own yours. Your work and contract would stay yours if Actual Size closed.

We haven’t minted anything or listed anything for sale. We haven’t chosen a blockchain or taken any payments. The historic collection stays separate, public domain and free forever, and will never be minted or sold.

What stays yours

You keep the copyright in your work. The physical work stays yours. Listing it here transfers nothing.

What a wall would need from you

Hear when a wall opens

Leave your email address to hear when a wall opens. This is an interest list with no opening date, and we’re taking no payments.

Or ask about a room for your own work

How a wall would read your size

A token can already state the physical size of the work behind it, and no marketplace draws it. Actual Size would. The fields, what is accepted and what is refused are on the standard.

The historic collection is not part of this

The 2,764 public-domain works in the gallery are free, stay free, and are never minted or sold. That half of the building does not change. Sources and rights.
